Two businesses on Tucker’s Main Street were burglarized in a smash-and-grab operation in the early morning hours of Jan. 30 – The Corner Cup Coffee and Nicky’s Undefeated.
The City of Tucker released on social media footage of the break-in at Nicky’s, which showed a white vehicle pull up to the entrance to the store, two people jump out, and within a minute, smash the plate glass window and take items from behind the counter.
The duo left when the restaurant’s alarms started blaring, the entire operation taking less than a minute.
Michael Lo of Nicky’s Undefeated said the incident occurred around 5 a.m., and that nothing of value was taken.
“The bigger issue is simply the cost to replace the windows,” Lo said.
Tucker city officials complimented both businesses for installing alarm systems, cameras and external lighting.
“Tucker Precinct officers were on the scene in four minutes,” the post said. “The crew fled before they could attempt any more break-ins within the City of Tucker.”
This is the second time in less than a year that burglars have struck Tucker Main Street businesses. Fox 5 Atlanta reported on July 16, 2024 that four businesses were broken into – Village Burger, Monster Cravings, Las Colinas, and The Corner Cup. All were reminiscent of the Jan. 30 incident that involved smashing windows and quickly taking items before a quick exit.
Nicky’s Undefeated took to social media to assure customers that it was business as usual following the incident.
It’s been a Smashing Morning over at Nicky’s,” the post said. “Knock us down but we get back up – because we’re UNDEFEATED!”
The post thanked local vendors for a temporary fix on the window so that Nicky’s could resume business as usual.
A Corner Cup employee said he didn’t know many details about the break-in, other than it occurred before the establishment opened. He said that the store is open for business today.
Rough Draft has filed an open records request with DeKalb Police about the two incidents and will update the story when more information is known.
