Krog Bar returned to the Atlanta dining scene in August, this time as a pizzeria serving coal-fired pies at ADAC West in the Buckhead neighborhood of Peachtree Hills, also home to owner Chef Kevin Rathbun’s KR SteakBar.

Rathbun closed the original Krog Bar in 2020, a Spanish tapas and wine bar located at the Stove Works across from Krog Street Market.

But you can find elements of the original Krog Bar at its new location, including some of the light fixtures, wall panels, mirrors, personal photos, and even its iconic black walnut front door. Rathbun kept these items in storage to repurpose them in the future.

Rathbun said in a press release that he chose to incorporate the original Krog Bar’s design components as a way to pay “homage to the past while introducing something entirely new.”

“I love all my restaurants, but this one was my comfort, my hideaway. It reminded me of our cool family basement when I was a kid, where food and music happened, everyone got along, cards were played, drinks were had and community was created,” said Rathbun. “Bringing it back, with a new purpose and in a neighborhood I love, just felt right. It’s intimate, soulful, and deeply personal – an ode to where we started, and to the people and places that inspired me along the way.”

Inspired by a decades-long dream and a promise to a late friend from Brooklyn, Rathbun’s new version of Krog Bar features a custom-built, coal-fired oven that reaches temperatures of up to 2,200 degrees. The intense heat creates crisp, charred crusts and flavors reminiscent of New York- and New Haven-style pizzas.

The menu features eight pizzas in total, including the Pomodoro, Margherita, KROG (standing for “Kevin Rathbun Original Gangsta”), Clam, and the Isabella (named after Rathbun’s granddaughter). Expect hearty sandwiches, salads, and a full bar offering cocktails and Italian wines and spirits.

At only 950 square feet, Krog Bar seats just 28 people inside, with additional seating for up to 20 people on the garden patio.
