DeKalb County School District is investigating an alleged sexual assault involving three students on a DeKalb County school bus.

The school district is looking into the incident, which is described as a “one-time, isolated event,” which allegedly took place on Oct. 22.

The district began an investigation and contacted the parents of the students the same day they were informed of each student’s level of involvement, Jennifer Caracciolo, interim chief of community engagement and innovative partnerships, told Rough Draft Atlanta.

Caracciolo did not confirm the age of the students or the name of the school the students attend.  She did confirm that district staff have met with all the students’ families.

“As always, the safety and well-being of our students on our buses and throughout the district is of utmost importance,” Caracciolo said in a statement. “We take allegations of misconduct seriously and act promptly to safeguard students and support families.”

DCSD addresses student sexual assault through its comprehensive Code of Student Conduct and in compliance with federal Title IX regulations, according to its website. The offense could result in suspension or expulsion.
